Prerequisite for Selection
We want to quickly put money in the pockets of SF Bay Area musicians who are suffering the devastating effects of having zero paying work due to the corona virus pandemic. This funding only applies to professional/full time musicians who need it the most. Applicants will be vetted to ensure those in need are made a priority.
1. The artist must reside in the SF Bay Area
2. The artist must provide proof of artistic endeavor within the last 6 months
3. The artist must not be eligible for unemployment, however, they may apply and receive funds through the recently passed legislation under the "Pandemic Unemployment Assistance" provision.
4. Applications will be evaluated in the order received
Eligibility: Awards are open to legal permanent residents of the SF Bay Area. Awards are void where prohibited. Employees of Motherwolf, sponsors, advertisers, promotion agencies, and their immediate families and those living in the same household of each are not eligible to participate.
Entrants must submit an original song and/or a "creative cover" music video no more than 6 minutes in length. The video should be centered around bringing relief to the community, drive social engagement, be original, and showcase musicianship. The video and the music in the video must be the original work of the entrant. To enter, create and share through instagram. Follow @motherwolfofficial and @jazzmafiaofficial. Share your song of relief on using #musicrelief and tag @motherwolfofficial and @jazzmafiaofficial. Share with communities on your social platforms.
Deadline for social submissions is April 30, 2020. All submissions must be shared with requirements between 12pm EDT, March 20, 2020 and 12pm EDT, April 30, 2020. Limit of one entry per artist.
Qualified individuals will judge video entries on:
(a) The following sharing criteria (50%)
Highest shares on social media
Engagement on social media
(b) The following song criteria (50%)
Theme applied to song; relief in form of comedic, emotional, thought provoking, spiritual, catharsis or strange 40%
Musicianship (intonation, rhythmic strength, feel, phrasing) 30%
Originality, undeniably a standout among other songs 20%
All videos will finally be submitted to a panel of qualified judges who will announce finalists for awards.
The finalists with the highest scores, as determined by the panel, will receive $500. The money will be distributed by the Intersection for the Arts. Should a recipient not be able to accept the prize money, the award will be forfeited.
Recipients will be notified by May 3rd via instagram dm with a request to send additional information to be vetted and will have 24 hours to respond. If Motherwolf does not receive a response within this time period, the applicant may be disqualified and an alternate applicant will be determined. Each grantee will be required to provide a completed and signed:
(a) Affidavit, including an assignment to Motherwolf of rights of ownership and copyright to the submitted video, in whole or in part and as edited by Motherwolf, in all media without additional compensation to or prior review by recipient
(b) Publicity Release. Failure to return the required documents in a timely way, or the return of any notification as undeliverable for any reason, will cause the entry to be void and an alternate finalist to be selected. [If any individual appearing in a video is under the age of 18 or not of the age of majority in state of residence, all relevant documents must be confirmed, ratified and signed by the parent or legal guardian of the individual signing the document(s).]
By participating, entrants:
(a) agree to these official rules and to the decisions of the judges and Motherwolf and its agents in all matters, including the voting process, relating to the contest, which decisions shall be final in all respects;
(b) release, indemnify and hold harmless Motherwolf, its affiliates and their respective directors, officers and employees, from any and all claims, liabilities, losses or damages of any kind whatsoever, including but not limited to the infringement of intellectual property rights of others, resulting in whole or in part from their participation in the grant and the acceptance and use of the funds;
(c) grant a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, publicly display, distribute, sublicense, modify, prepare derivative works and otherwise fully exploit any Video that entrant submits to Motherwolf;
(d) participant consents (except where prohibited by law) to the use of their name, likeness and location for advertising and publicity purposes by Motherwolf, in its sole discretion, of its products and services; and
(e) represent that the video submitted is their work and does not infringe the intellectual property right of any other party.
Entrants shall be solely responsible for the video and the consequences of posting or publishing it. In connection with the video, entrants affirm that:
(i) they own or have the necessary licenses, rights, consents, and permissions to use and authorize Motherwolf to use all trademark, copyright or other proprietary rights in and to any and all video to enable inclusion and use of the video in the manner contemplated by the Motherwolf service and these rules; and
(ii) they have the written consent, release, and/or permission of each and every identifiable individual person in the video to use the name or likeness of each and every such identifiable individual person to enable inclusion and use of the video in the manner contemplated by the Motherwolf service and these rules. Motherwolf has the right in its sole discretion to refuse to post a video for any reason, including, but not limited to, submitted video that appears to contain material protected by intellectual property rights held by a third party.
Entrant agrees that Motherwolf is not responsible for any violations of any intellectual property rights in any video that entrant submits to Motherwolf. Entrant understands that by entering the contest, entrant’s video will be publicly available to others and that Motherwolf has no obligation to prevent the unauthorized copying, dissemination, alternation or other use of the video by others.
Participants agree that Motherwolf and its agents are not responsible for late, lost or misdirected entries, or for error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, computer, hardware or software malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate transmission of or failure of Motherwolf and its agents to receive entries for any reason whatsoever or for any errors, mishaps or problems, regardless of the cause, in the voting process. In the event Motherwolf determines that the integrity of the contest has been impaired or corrupted for any reason and as a result cannot be offered or completed as planned, Motherwolf reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel or terminate the contest and to select winners from among eligible entrants legitimately received prior to the event causing cancellation or termination. Should Motherwolf and judges, in their sole discretion, determine that there are insufficient entries worthy of being selected as a finalist, they reserve the right to select less than 10 finalists.
The contest shall be governed by and interpreted under the laws of the State of California; and any legal action concerning the contest shall be brought only in a state or federal court located in San Francisco.
